Micro Fun Scale Rules

This event is being run by: Joe Malinchak

1. Eligibility.

The contest is open to modeler built or factory-built RC scale models.

The model will weigh no more than two ounces RTF.

2. Static Judging.

Static score will be zero (o) or five (5) static points will be awarded to contestants who show proof that a full size aircraft of this type, and in this general paint / markings scheme, did exist.

3. Flying.

All rules as per RC Sport Scale (AMA event 512) except contestant may use only one mechanical option for scoring.

4. Scoring.

Contestant’s score shall be the average of his best two (2) flight plus five (5) static points if earned.

Maximum total flight score is 100 points.

All maneuvers and scale operations (except Touch-and Go) are to be scored from zero (0) to 10 points to the nearest half point.

Touch-and –Go, which counts as (2) options, is scored from zero (0) to 20 points.

5. Flight.

All flights shall be ROG.

Options may be any maneuvers listed in the AMA Scale Judging Guide or any Scale Operations (retract gear, flaps, bomb drops, crop dusting, ect) typical of the aircraft modeled.

6. RC Flight Plan.

The RC flight plan shall consist of 10 maneuvers and/or scale operations, five (5) mandatory and five (5) optional. The mandatory items are unassisted ROG, figure eight, fly past. Landing, and realism in flight. The mandatory and optional maneuvers may be performed in any sequence, but must follow the flight plan presented to the flight judges. Any maneuver and/or scale operation may be selected for scoring only once during any single official flight.

KIEF 2010 Open Motor-Glider Rules

This event is being run by: Del Ogren

1. The Model:

The model shall weigh no more than 2 ounces (56.7 grams), and shall be electric powered (no catapult, tow-line, or balloon launches). Other than that anything goes.

2. Timing and scoring:

The pilot will have as much time as needed to climb to the roof and position the model as desired. Timing will start when the throttle is closed. Time will be rounded down to 0.1 second. Longest glide time wins.

3. General:

Build a new model, fly what you have, hack an RTF, or .... (but if you bring a motorized helium balloon, I have a pocket knife that will put and end to that!) Fly as many times as you want before we get ready to do the raffle and awards ceremony. If you have a stop watch, bring it to time other folks. But, primarily, have a bunch of fun! That's what KIEF is all about.

KIEF 2010 Old Time Climb and Glide Rules

This event is being run by: Del Ogren

1. The Model.

The model shall be a model of a model airplane that was designed, built, or kitted prior to 1942. Proof of that date shall be the responsibility of the contestant. The model shall weigh no more than 2 ounces (56.7 grams).  The weight will be checked by the contest director. There is no minimum weight. The model shall be a model of a model with a built-up fuselage. No stick fuselage models will be allowed.  However, you can build a profile scale model (see "Scoring" below for more information). There are no restrictions on building materials or type of construction. Foam, stick and tissue, carbon fiber, concrete....  are all allowed. However, transparent plastic covering is not. No models of pre-war indoor cabin models, please. The model shall ROG.

2. Timing.

Timing shall begin when the model starts its launch. The contestant shall have 30 seconds to get the model as high as he/she dares, at which point the throttle shall be closed. Timing ends when the model touches the floor or hangs-up in the building structure.

3. Scoring.

For all models, the 30 second climb time shall be subtracted from the total time. For models with profile fuselages, the glide time is the score. For models with built-up fuselages, the glide time, multiplied by 1.25, is the score. For those pilots who are able to land dead-stick and touch the designated runway, an additional 5 seconds will be added to their score.

4. General.

As Contest Director, I will be allowed to compete, but for "bragging rights" only. I will not be allowed to win. The purpose of this event is, primarily, to have fun. Secondary purposes are to promote diversity in construction methods, to promote innovation in interpreting the rules, and to discover how well the concept of such a contest being run during a large indoor meet will work.   But, above all, let's have some fun.

KIEF 2010 Micro Pylon Race Rules

This event is being run by: TBA

1. The Model.

The model shall be a recognizable replica of a full-scale airplane that raced, or was designed to be raced (if there is any doubt about the authenticity of the design, proof of the existence of the prototype is the responsibility of the contestant).  The minimum wing span shall be 13 inches.  If, however, a model is built from a kit advertised as "Peanut" scale, that model will be allowed, even if the wing span of the finished model comes in a bit under 13 inches.  Profile fuselages are allowed.  The maximum eight

is 2 ounces.  The gear drive system shall be a GWJ 7mm 4:1. The choice of 7mm motor and radio equipment is up to the contestant.  The battery is limited to a single Lithium Polymer cell.  Landing gear is not required, unless the full-scale aircraft aircraft was built with fixed gear.

2. The Race Course.

The pylons will be clearly visible markers.  The start/finish line  will be marked, and will be mid-way between the two pylons.

3. Race "Officials".

There shall be a starter, one judge for each pylon, and a lap counter for each contestant.

4. Flying a Heat.

The models shall be launched from a position so as to allow flight to proceed toward the start/finish line.  A lap is complete when the model has rounded both pylons and has crossed the start/finish line.  It shall be the responsibility of the pylon judge to note pylon cuts, and to loudly announce the cut to the lap counter. Heats shall be 5 laps.

5. Scoring.

Heats shall consist of no more than 4 models.  A first place finish earns 4 points, 2'nd 3 points, 3'rd 2 points, and 4'th 1 point.  If a model cuts a pylon, that lap shall not be counted.  If that model cuts a second pylon, no points will be awarded for that heat. The sum of all points earned in each heat will be the pilot's score.  If a model is unable to complete a heat, no points will be awarded.  In the event of a final tie, a fly-off  race will be flown.  The determination of which contestants are involved in each heat will be decided at the meet, and will depend on the number of contestants.

6. General.

As contest director, I will not be allowed to compete.  Safety, as always, is paramount.  So fly safely.  If, in the opinion of the contest director, a model is deemed unsafe to persons or property, that model will be disqualified.

The GWJ drive , along with kits and other parts, are available from: http://www.bsdmicrorc.com.

Additional "peanut Scale (and larger) plans and kits can be found from numerous other sources.

But, mostly, the goal is to have ourselves a big time.  So, let's do it!

This event is being run by: Joe Malinchak

1. The Model.

The model shall use a stock Plantraco GB-05 motor and gear drive, and
a single Full River 20 mAh Lithium-polymer cell.  The maximum weight
of the model shall be 2 ounces (56.7 grams).  The choice of building
materials, electronics, and propeller, is left up to the contestant.

2. Timing.

Timing of a flight starts when the model is released, and ends when
the model comes to rest on the floor, or hangs up in the structure of
the building.

3. Scoring.

The modeler's score is the longest flight made by that modeler.
More than one model is allowed.  The number of flights is limited only
by the time allotted for the event by the Contest Director.
